| Higher EducationProject: Ithaca College - Peggy Ryan Williams Center LEED Platinum Certification, Carbon Neutral Info: Christa Construction performed as General Contractors for the monumental Peggy Ryan Williams Center at Ithaca College. This administrative building is the first stop for new and returning students. It is located adjacent to the main entry to the campus and provides prospective students a first impression of Ithaca College. The building was designed to greet visitors with views of Cayuga Lake and to illustrate that sustainability is a central principle in the life of the college.
This new structure is linked to an existing building through an elevated bridge. The four-story, 58,000 SF building is constructed of structural steel and concrete and built on caissons. The exterior features limestone, glass and metal siding. A vegitatied roof replaces land taken up by the building and reduces airborne pollutants. Geothermal well fields are installed for use with the heating/cooling system. A rain water catch basin collection system is utilized for toilet flushing and supplies 85% of the building's annual water needs.
This monumental structure houses the admissions and administrative offices for Ithaca College. This building was designed and built to obtain the highest level LEED Certification, Platinum and is Carbon Neutral (using 100% green energy) - Platinum Certification was granted by the USGBC in January, 2011.
